Local landowners are being invited to take part in an upcoming webinar focused on protecting farmland and natural spaces for future generations. The Long Point Biosphere Region is hosting a free online session titled Your Land, Your Legacy: Exploring Conservation Easements on Monday, March 23 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The webinar will introduce participants to Conservation Easement Agreements, commonly known as CEAs, which are voluntary legal tools designed to help landowners preserve environmentally significant features and agricultural lands. These agreements allow property owners to maintain ownership while ensuring the land is protected long-term, even if it is sold or passed down through generations.
The session will be led by Paul Peterson, a lawyer with more than 30 years of experience working with landowners on private land conservation projects. Peterson will explain how conservation easements function in practice, outline potential benefits, and answer questions from attendees considering this option.
Organizers say the webinar is particularly relevant for Norfolk County residents looking to balance land use with environmental stewardship. In addition to the session, the Long Point Biosphere Region is offering funded legal advice for eligible landowners interested in exploring conservation easements further.
Those interested in attending can register online through the Long Point Biosphere Region website.
