The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) is issuing multiple Flood Warning messages for communities along the Grand River, including Grand Valley, St. Jacobs, New Hamburg, Ayr, West Montrose, Drayton, Brantford, and Haldimand County, while a Flood Watch remains in effect for the remainder of the watershed.
Warm weather and recent rainfall over the past three days have melted the snowpack, causing ice jams, elevated river levels, and localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Residents and municipal flood coordinators are being advised to monitor water levels closely, keep dams, culverts, and catch basins clear of debris, and avoid streams, rivers, and ponds due to fast-flowing water and slippery banks.
GRCA staff will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as necessary, emphasizing that additional snowmelt over the coming days could increase the risk of flooding across the region.
