The Town of Tillsonburg is inviting residents to share their thoughts as it explores becoming a film-friendly community to attract television and movie productions.
Development Commissioner Cephas Panschow says filming has taken place in Tillsonburg over the years, but only occasionally. He says the renewed effort is focused on creating a formal Film Policy and a clear, consistent process for production companies. According to Panschow, Mayor Deb Gilvesy brought the idea forward after speaking with Brant County Mayor David Bailey about the benefits their community has seen from film projects.
Council first reviewed a draft policy in October 2024 and asked staff to conduct public consultation before bringing it back for consideration. The Film-Friendly Community Survey is open until March 13 and asks residents about potential benefits, concerns and possible filming locations.
Panschow said having a defined system is essential, especially if a production wants to close streets or use municipal spaces.
While proposed municipal fees are expected to be modest, Panschow says the bigger goal is economic development and tourism growth.
A draft version of the proposed Film Policy is available for review, along with an online public survey. Staff will gather and analyze the feedback before bringing a report and recommendations back to council for consideration.
