A new documentary film is coming to Capitol 33 this weekend, sharing the story of Sean Hartman and his father’s ongoing wrongful death lawsuit.
“The Shot: Sean Hartman’s Story” directed by filmmaker Dean Rainey, will screen Sunday, Feb. 22 at 4 p.m. in Delhi.
Rainey said the inspiration for the film was personal.
Sean Hartman, a 17-year-old hockey player, was found deceased beside his bed in 2021, several weeks after receiving his first COVID-19 vaccine.
The documentary focuses on his father, Dan Hartman, who has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Pfizer. Rainey says the courts have allowed the case to move forward, and the film aims to raise awareness and funds to help cover the costs of what is expected to be a lengthy legal battle.
Rainey became involved after Alberta-based journalist Jason Levine began work on the project. Rainey and his team stepped in over the Christmas holidays to help complete the film.
The documentary also explores broader questions about informed consent, mandates and myocarditis, and includes interviews with doctors and others connected to the issue.
Rainey says he was careful about what was included in the final cut.
The film has drawn both support and criticism online. Rainey acknowledges there has been pushback but says the goal remains to encourage discussion.
He hopes the Delhi screening will attract both supporters and people who are simply curious.
“It’s special to be able to bring it to Delhi,” Rainey said, noting the event will also include a showing of his “Building History: Best of Norfolk” series earlier in the day.
