Volunteering with the Norfolk County Fire Department is about more than responding to emergencies — it’s about community, training, and making a difference when it matters most. For Jack Pascall, a new recruit at Station One in Simcoe, joining the department has been a transformative experience.
Originally from Burlington, Pascall moved to Simcoe with the goal of becoming a volunteer firefighter, inspired in part by family legacy. Over his first year, he has immersed himself in comprehensive training, learning fire prevention, emergency medical assistance, and the operation of specialized equipment — all under the guidance of experienced station members. Recruits rotate through multiple stations across the county, gaining exposure to different communities and emergency scenarios.
For Pascall, the rewards go beyond the excitement of emergency calls. Volunteering provides the chance to make a real difference during some of the most difficult moments in people’s lives, while also connecting with a close-knit community he hadn’t experienced in the city.
With flexible schedules, anyone can contribute, whether on a weekday evening or weekend. Pascall’s journey highlights the dedication, preparation, and heart volunteer firefighters bring to Norfolk County.
