The Norfolk County Public Library is officially entering a new digital era, following the completion of a major behind-the-scenes system upgrade earlier this month.
The transition introduces a brand new collection management system designed to make browsing, borrowing, and managing accounts easier and more intuitive for patrons across the county.
We spoke to Virtual Library Coordinator Belinda Smith who told us the upgrade will meet modern user expectations.
One of the biggest changes is the move to a cloud-based system, which allows for seamless mobile access from any device.
This upgrade also allows to library to let users have access to something they have been asking for.
The upgrade also strengthens the library’s ability to share resources by joining a larger consortium of libraries, expanding access to materials beyond Norfolk County. Smith says this will significantly improve interlibrary loans and long-term service capabilities.
While the new catalogue is already live, an even larger change is on the horizon: a complete website redesign set to launch later this month.
The new site will feature simplified navigation built around three core ideas — Borrow, Learn, and Play — making it easier for users to discover everything from homework help and online courses to makerspaces and community programs.
