Families with children turning four in 2026 are invited to get ready for school as the Grand Erie District School Board hosts Kickstart to Kindergarten events across the region.
The events are designed to help children and families feel confident about starting Kindergarten this September. Director of Education JoAnna Roberto says Grand Erie’s programs provide a welcoming environment where young learners explore, build relationships, and develop early problem-solving skills.
Families who register can book a timeslot to meet educators and connect with community partners, including the LookSee developmental screening. Early connections may help families decide if further screening through Lansdowne Children’s Centre or Haldimand-Norfolk REACH is needed before school begins. Drop-ins are welcome, but registration helps families make the most of their visit.
Kickstart events will be held at several local schools:
- Burford District Elementary School: Tuesday, February 10 from 2 to 6 p.m.
- Major Ballachey Public School: Tuesday, February 17 from 2 to 6 p.m.
- Walter Gretzky Elementary School: Wednesday, February 25 from 2 to 6 p.m.
- Thomspon Creek Elementary School, Thursday, March 5 from 2 to 6 p.m.
- Jarvis Public School: Tuesday, March 23 from 2 to 6 p.m.
- Walsh Public School: Thursday, March 25 from 4 to 6 p.m.
