Haldimand County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are asking for the public’s help as they continue to investigate a suspicious fire at a residence in Dunnville.
Police say the incident happened on Tuesday, December 16 at approximately 6:10 p.m., when officers and Haldimand County Fire Services responded to a reported fire at a home on Edgewater Place.
Investigators determined that an unidentified individual entered the unoccupied residence and deliberately set the fire. The suspect is described as being tall and was reportedly wearing a hoodie, balaclava, and gloves at the time of the incident.
According to police, the suspect applied an accelerant inside the home before exiting the residence, throwing a lit object into the interior, and fleeing the scene on foot through the rear of the property.
Fire crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, however the home sustained fire damage. No injuries were reported.
Haldimand OPP say the investigation is ongoing and they are appealing to anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area or who has information about the incident to come forward.
