Several local Lions Clubs are taking the next step in a major fundraising initiative aimed at supporting end-of-life care in the community.
The Waterford Lions Club, Jarvis Lions Club, and Simcoe Lynn Valley Lions Club have announced they have received cabinet approval to move forward with an application to Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) for a matching grant of up to $400,000.
The funding would support the Norfolk Haldimand Hospice.
The project is being positioned as an all-Lions Clubs initiative, with clubs across the district expected to be invited to participate.
The goal of the fundraising effort is to raise enough money to help purchase the first five hospice beds, expanding access to compassionate end-of-life care for residents in the region.
In the coming months, organizers plan to bring the application to the next LCIF meeting, where the request will be reviewed.
Lions representatives say the matching grant would allow donations to be doubled, significantly increasing the impact of community fundraising efforts in support of the hospice.
