Grand Erie Public Health has issued a Cold Notification for Brantford-Brant and Haldimand-Norfolk, effective January 14, 2026.
The Medical Officer of Health says temperatures are expected to drop sharply, with overnight wind chill values reaching minus 20 degrees Celsius. A Cold Notification is issued when temperatures fall below minus 15 or wind chills reach minus 20.
Public health warns extreme cold can cause frostbite, hypothermia, and worsen chronic health conditions. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, dress in warm layers, and check on older and vulnerable individuals.
