The Norfolk HERicanes turned a cold winter weekend into a highlight-reel heater, skating away with gold and silver from two tough tournaments.
The U18 B HERicanes were crowned Flamborough Winter Chill champions, grinding through six hard-fought games where every shift mattered. The road to gold featured a semifinal thriller against the Brampton Canadettes that had drama written all over it. Locked 1–1 after overtime, the game went to a shootout. Enter Leah Jamieson, who buried the winner.
The championship game was another nail-biter. The HERicanes edged the Ayr Rockets 4–3 in a back-and-forth battle. Jamieson found the scoresheet again, Trinity Wakefield struck twice, and Aidia McKeller added the insurance. Between the pipes, Alyssa Calverbert held steady when it mattered most.
Not to be outdone, the U18 HL HERicanes grabbed silver at Orillia Winterfest. They cruised through round-robin play undefeated, powered by five shutouts from goaltender Dy Dy Winnie, before falling to a strong Tamiskaming squad in the final.
Two teams. Two podiums. Maximum heart. Norfolk hockey at its best.
