Residents in Simcoe are being urged to shelter in place as Norfolk OPP respond to an active incident involving potentially armed individuals.
Police say the situation is centred around Kent Street and Union Street. As a result, several roads are closed, including Colborne Street North, Union Street, Young Street, and Kent Street. Officers remain on scene and the investigation is ongoing.
People in the affected area are asked to stay inside a secure location. If indoors, residents should lock all doors and windows and close curtains or blinds to avoid drawing attention. Anyone who is outside is urged to seek shelter immediately.
Police stress that members of the public should not approach or engage with the suspect or suspects. Anyone who sees or encounters them is asked to call 9-1-1 right away.
Drivers are advised to go directly to their destination, lock their doors upon arrival, and not pick up hitchhikers. Those not in the area are asked to avoid travelling there until further notice.
The OPP acknowledges the stress a shelter-in-place order can cause and says every precaution is being taken to protect public safety.
