You’re sitting down for a Christmas meal and you load up your plate.
Then you go for seconds. And thirds. Then dessert is being served – and before you know it, you feel terrible and start beating yourself up for your food choices.
This is something local dietitian Emily Szatrowski sees all the time, but she says there are ways to prevent this cycle.
When it comes time for the meal, she says it’s not a race. The food isn’t going anywhere, so take your time and appreciate it.
Szatrowski says even with a plan, people will still slip up sometimes. It’s important to understand that overeating is something everyone does at one point or another, and you shouldn’t beat yourself up over it.
She says not to take that guilt and use it as an excuse to continue unhealthy habits. Instead, get back on track the very next day.
Eat breakfast, drink plenty of water, and try some light movement – like going for a walk – to help your body feel better.
