A yellow-level Snow Squall Warning remains in effect for Simcoe, Delhi, and the rest of Norfolk County today, as Environment Canada warns of rapidly changing and dangerous winter driving conditions.
The weather agency says intense bursts of snow are expected to continue throughout the morning and into this evening, bringing 15 to 20 centimetres of accumulation and periods of near-zero visibility.
Strong westerly to northwesterly winds, gusting up to 50 kilometres per hour, are also contributing to localized blowing snow and whiteout conditions on rural roads.
Officials say snowfall amounts will vary widely across Norfolk depending on where the squalls set up, but any affected areas may experience sudden, severe reductions in visibility.
Travel is expected to be hazardous throughout the day, and road closures are possible if conditions deteriorate further. Residents are urged to slow down, allow extra time for travel, and be prepared for visibility that can drop to nearly nothing with little warning.
The squalls are expected to weaken later this evening as the system loses intensity.
Environment Canada continues to monitor the situation closely and advises residents to follow updates as conditions evolve.
