The Port Dover Sailors are gearing up for one of their most popular community events as the annual Teddy Bear Game returns this week, supporting multiple local causes. Head of Hockey Operations Mike Tobin says the team has seen “a ton of success” with past teddy bear toss nights, which collect stuffed animals for charities.
This year, the Sailors are expanding their charitable focus and Tobin has some help.
Proceeds from 50/50 draws and in-arena fundraisers will support Norfolk Haldimand Community Hospice, with a donation table set up on game night.
Minor hockey players are encouraged to wear their jerseys, and any child who brings a teddy bear gets in free.
If throwing a teddy bear onto the ice isn’t enough, fans can also take part in the popular “Chuck-a-Puck.”
Tobin went on to explain that the most accurate puck wins a prize.
This year’s team has seen strong community support and features many local players on the roster. Tobin says he couldn’t be happier.
He hopes the community will come out and pack the arena this Sunday (Dec 14). The Sailors face Glanbrook in what Tobin expects will be another close matchup. Puck drop is at 2:00 p.m.
Stay tuned—because the following home game, the team will also host its annual turkey giveaway game.
