Brantford City Council has approved the design and construction of a new Sports and Entertainment Centre (SEC), marking a major investment in the city’s future and downtown renewal. The decision follows the signing of a landmark 15-year lease with the Brantford Bulldogs, with options that could keep the team in the city for up to 40 years.
The 5,235-seat facility will host OHL hockey, concerts, trade shows, family events, and community celebrations. Located on Market Street with a new civic plaza connecting to the Civic Centre, the SEC is expected to become a key hub for public gatherings and economic activity.
City analysis shows construction will generate $261 million in economic impact and create 1,260 full-time jobs. Once open, the centre is projected to drive $13.2 million in annual spending and support 95 jobs.
Mayor Kevin Davis called the project a “generational investment,” while Bulldogs GM Spencer Hyman said the team is committed to calling Brantford home. Construction is set to begin in early 2026.
