Police are asking for the public’s help as they continue to investigate an attempted arson at a home in Simcoe earlier this week.
The incident happened on Monday, December 8, 2025, when Norfolk County OPP were called to a residence on Kent Street South at approximately 8:29 a.m. after a fire was reported at the front of the building.
According to investigators, surveillance footage and witness statements revealed that only minutes earlier—around 8:24 a.m.—an unidentified individual approached the property and deliberately applied an accelerant to the entryway before igniting it.
The suspect, described as wearing a black jacket, grey pants, brown boots, and a dark face covering, fled the area on foot heading south on Kent Street after starting the fire.
Emergency crews quickly responded, and while the blaze caused only minor damage to the exterior, no injuries were reported.
A photograph of the suspect has been released as police work to track down the person responsible.
OPP say the investigation remains active and are urging anyone with information, including dash cam footage or home surveillance video from the area, to come forward.
