A heartbreaking situation turned into a feel-good rescue story this week after Norfolk OPP officers discovered a litter of kittens that had been abandoned in the middle of a roadway.
Officers were initially called to a traffic hazard, but when they arrived, they found several tiny kittens huddled together and in immediate danger from passing vehicles.
According to police, the kittens were scooped up and placed safely in the back of a cruiser, where they quickly settled in and made themselves comfortable.
Photos shared by the Norfolk OPP show the animals curled up in blankets, finally warm and out of harm’s way.
Police are reminding the public that abandoning animals is never the answer and puts them at serious risk.
Anyone unable to care for a pet is urged to contact local animal services, shelters, or rescue groups, all of which can provide safe alternatives.
The OPP is using the incident to highlight the importance of responsible pet ownership and to encourage residents to “do the right thing” when facing difficult situations involving animals.
