Norfolk County is taking more time to review its proposed Ice Allocation Policy after council voted to delay the decision until February 2026.
The move came during the November 13 Council-in-Committee meeting, where councillors noted a significant increase in public feedback from residents, sports organizations, and arena user groups.
County officials say the volume of calls and emails demonstrated strong community interest in the policy, which governs how ice time is distributed among youth groups, adult leagues, school programs, and other users.
Several councillors emphasized the need for further outreach and refinement before moving forward.
Staff have now been directed to conduct additional consultation over the coming months, working directly with impacted stakeholders to gather more data, concerns, and recommendations.
The updated Ice Allocation Report and revised policy will return to council in February 2026 for discussion and final consideration.
The delay ensures the County has more time to address equity, scheduling pressures, and user demand across local arenas-issues that have intensified in recent years due to growing participation and limited surface availability.
