A Norfolk County man has been charged following an investigation into counterfeit currency in downtown Simcoe.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report around 3:59 p.m. on October 27 at a business on Robinson Street after an individual allegedly attempted to exchange a fake bill for cash.
According to investigators, the suspect left the scene on foot but was apprehended a short distance away near Stanley Street and Kent Street without incident.
The 29-year-old suspect from Norfolk County has been charged with uttering counterfeit money, using or dealing with a forged document, and failing to comply with a probation order.
The OPP continues to remind business owners to remain vigilant and report any suspicious bills or attempted transactions immediately.
Counterfeit investigations not only protect local businesses but also help ensure public confidence and economic safety within the community.
