Venture Norfolk is helping local entrepreneurs turn their business dreams into reality — one plan at a time.
General Manager Kristine Carey says Venture Norfolk is a community-based, federally funded organization that supports business growth and economic development across Norfolk County. Managed by a volunteer board of business and community leaders, Venture Norfolk provides free consulting services, funding opportunities, and guidance for both new and existing small businesses.
Carey explains that a solid business plan is the first step to success.
She emphasizes that a good plan helps entrepreneurs understand their products, costs, competition, and goals. Through one-on-one support from Venture Norfolk’s business consultant, clients can create a detailed, viable plan that not only guides operations but also strengthens funding applications to banks or credit unions.
Once a plan is finalized and proven viable, some entrepreneurs may even qualify for financing directly through Venture Norfolk.
Venture Norfolk supports businesses at all stages, from early ideas to established operations looking to adapt to change. The organization also partners with agencies such as the Business Development Bank of Canada and Export Development Canada to connect local entrepreneurs with national resources.
Carey likens Venture Norfolk’s role to that of a coach rather than a cheerleader.
“Smart entrepreneurs are the ones who put up their hand and say, ‘This is beyond my scope — I need help,’” said Carey. “And we’re there to help.”
During Small Business Week, Carey encourages anyone with a promising idea to reach out to Venture Norfolk.
She adds. “Every great business starts with a good idea and the willingness to take that first step — and we’re here to help make that happen.”
