A 23-year-old Oxford County man is facing multiple impaired driving charges following a serious single-vehicle collision near the Norfolk-Oxford County border early Friday morning.
Around 1:00 a.m. this morning (October 17), Norfolk County OPP, firefighters, and paramedics responded to a crash on Highway 19 just outside Courtland. Police say a sedan left the roadway and came to rest in a nearby field.
The driver, identified as 23-year-old Brody Mitton, suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital. A passenger in the vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a trauma centre by air ambulance.
Following the investigation, Mitton was charged with impaired operation – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), operation causing bodily harm, and dangerous operation causing bodily harm.
He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe in November.
Highway 19 was closed between Norfolk County Road 30 and Carson Line for several hours but has since reopened. Police remind motorists that impaired driving endangers lives and can have devastating consequences.
