Property owners near Long Point Bay are banding together to restore safe navigation through the local channel, where extremely low water levels have made boat access increasingly difficult.
Amie and Ray Ferris of Old Cut Boat Livery have secured permits from the Long Point Region Conservation Authority and the Ministry of Natural Resources to dredge the mouth of the channel.
The project aims to improve navigation, maintain property values, and ensure reliable access for all water users.
Local residents are being asked to contribute a minimum of $300 to help cover dredging costs, which include equipment, labour, and environmental compliance.
Granger Excavating has been hired to complete the work, with contributions being accepted at several Rogers Avenue addresses or via electronic funds transfer to info@oldcut.com.
Organizers say the work will move forward as soon as funds are raised, with any excess or unspent money refunded to participants.
