Week 4 marked the halfway point of the local high school football season, bringing excitement, emotion, and a few fireworks both on and off the field.
At Simcoe Composite, the Valley Heights Bears continued their strong season with a 29–16 win over the Sabres. The Bears remain unbeaten on the field, with their only blemish a forfeit loss to Delhi. Simcoe found the endzone for the first time this season, adding a safety on defense, but penalties, fumbles, and tempers flared for both teams. An on-field skirmish led to ejections for both sides, and tensions spilled over when an upset parent exchanged words with the Sabres’ coaching staff.
In Caledonia, the Waterford District Wolves edged McKinnon Park 15–14 in a nailbiter, while the Pauline Johnson Thunderbirds blanked the Cayuga Warriors 41–0.
Meanwhile, Delhi District’s annual Friday Night Lights game against Holy Trinity drew a big hometown crowd and food trucks. The Raiders dominated from kickoff, cruising to a 62–6 victory.
The standings are tightening with four teams sitting at 3–1 and three still looking for their first win. Delhi remains undefeated heading into this weekend’s Pumpkin Bowl, a much-anticipated showdown against Waterford on Saturday at 2 p.m.
