Federal and provincial privacy watchdogs say TikTok’s efforts to keep children off its platform and protect their personal information have been inadequate.
A joint investigation found the company collects sensitive data from hundreds of thousands of Canadian children each year, including biometric information used to estimate age.
The report concluded TikTok didn’t properly explain how that data was used for ads and recommendations.
While the company has made improvements, commissioners say they’ll keep monitoring compliance.
