The long-standing rivalry between Simcoe Composite School and Delhi District Secondary School takes centre stage today as the two teams battle in the annual Mud Jug football game.
Kickoff is set for 2:45 p.m. in Delhi, with the Simcoe Sabres visiting the Delhi Raiders in what has become one of Norfolk County’s most anticipated high school sports traditions.
The Mud Jug trophy — a stoneware jug and accompanying plaque — has been awarded annually since 1970 to the winner of this matchup, symbolizing decades of fierce competition and school pride.
For both students and alumni, the game represents more than just football; it’s a celebration of community spirit and local sports history.
Last year’s clash, the 54th edition of the Mud Jug, saw both teams enter undefeated at 3-0.
The Sabres came out strong, defeating the Raiders 27-14 to claim the jug and bragging rights.
With this year’s game serving as the season opener, both schools are looking to set the tone for the months ahead.
Fans from across Norfolk County are expected to turn out, continuing a tradition that has lasted more than five decades and shows no sign of slowing down.
