The Friends of the Library are bringing back a holiday tradition with a dramatic reading of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. The event will take place on Friday, November 28 at 7:30 p.m. inside St. James United Church on Colborne Street in Simcoe.
Organizers are now holding auditions to find readers.
That was chairperson Amanda Van Schyndel who added they are looking for voices who can bring Dickens’ words to life, but there is no acting or costumes involved. It is strictly a reading.
Van Schyndel says the story will be performed in its entirety, divided into five staves.
The program will also feature period-style Christmas music directed by Diane Bridges-Stewart. For those interested in just how much reading there is Van Schyndel elaborated.
Auditions are open to teens and adults and will be held at the Simcoe Public Library on Saturday, September 27 and Saturday, October 4 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Tickets for the November performance are $25, with proceeds supporting the Simcoe Branch Library. Organizers say the evening will set the tone for the holiday season with an elegant and festive atmosphere.
