Canadian playwrights have until the end of today, September 15, to submit their comedic works for consideration in Lighthouse Festival’s 2026 Play Development Festival.
The festival, set for March 6 to 11, 2026, will showcase three selected plays on the Lighthouse mainstage, offering playwrights dramaturgical support, rehearsal time with professional artists, and a staged reading before a live audience.
Eligible submissions include unproduced, two-act comedic plays approximately 90 minutes long with no more than six actors, or musicals designed for a maximum of four performers.
Now in its second year since the pandemic, the Play Development Festival is part of Lighthouse Festival’s ongoing commitment to supporting new Canadian voices in theatre.
The festival also serves as a potential pipeline to full productions in future Lighthouse summer seasons, with past featured works going on to professional productions and publication.
Interested playwrights can review submission guidelines and upload their scripts at lighthousetheatre.com/play-development/play-development-festival before the deadline passes at midnight.
