Haldimand Mayor Shelley Ann Bentley has been found guilty of violating the municipality’s Code of Conduct following an investigation by Integrity Commissioner David Boghosian.
The Haldimand Free Press broke the news, says the report concludes that Bentley leaked confidential emails connected to a contentious health unit merger in an effort to damage Norfolk Mayor Amy Martin’s provincial election campaign in 2025.
The emails were anonymously posted to a public Facebook group during the election, an act the Commissioner ruled was politically motivated to benefit Bentley’s ally, MPP Bobbi Ann Brady.
Boghosian recommended a 120-day suspension of Bentley’s pay and a formal public apology.
Council is expected to review the report and make a decision on the penalty in the coming weeks.
