NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly says a decision is coming soon on the future of five former Hockey Canada players acquitted in a high-profile sexual assault case.
The five were acquitted July 24 in London, Ontario. The case, tied to a hotel room encounter more than seven years ago, sparked national debate about consent and hockey culture.
Despite the ruling, the NHL has kept the players ineligible to play while it reviews the findings, a move criticized by the NHL Players’ Association. Hockey Canada also maintains their suspension from its programs.
Speaking at the NHL/NHLPA media tour in Las Vegas, Daly said the league takes the matter “very seriously” and expects a decision “in the relatively near future.”
