The Terry Fox Run will once again bring the community together in Simcoe on Sunday, September 14, marking the 45th anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope.
This year’s event takes place at Simcoe Lions Ballpark (75 Davis Street East), starting with registration at 10 a.m. Opening ceremonies begin around 10:30 a.m., followed by the run, walk, or ride at 11 a.m. Participants can register online in advance or sign up in person the morning of the run.
For many, the annual Canada-wide run is a tradition. But for local organizers Mackenzie and Maddy Thorpe, it is deeply personal.
Mackenzie, reminds residents that there is no minimum pledge to participate in the day.
The event will feature door prizes, sponsor giveaways, and refreshments, along with fun activities for families. Kids can enjoy the Terry’s Kid Zone with entertainment from Andy the Balloon Guy, while participants can take photos with life-size Terry displays and banners. Friendly leashed dogs are welcome, with treats and ribbons available at the dog station.

Shirts can be purchased by debit, credit, or e-transfer. Raffle tickets for the popular Food Tour of Norfolk for Cancer Research will also be on sale. Participants are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle for the refill stations provided.
Last year, the Norfolk community raised nearly $30,000 through the run and school events combined. This year, organizers hope to build on that total while celebrating the legacy of Terry Fox, a Canadian hero who continues to inspire hope for a cancer-free future.
