Today (August 26) marks National Dog Day, a celebration of the loyalty, joy, and companionship that dogs bring to people’s lives.
Founded in 2004 by pet lifestyle expert Colleen Paige, the day highlights adoption and rescue efforts for homeless animals.
It also recognizes the service and working dogs that support communities across Canada.
We spoke with Katherine Vooys, owner of the Crunchy Canine, and asked her some dog related questions for the occasion.
To start, we asked what tips she would provide for new dog owners.
Next week, kids are going back to school.
This could be a harder transition for dogs, who may have gotten use to someone being home most of the time, and now will have to go five days a week being alone for hours.
Vooys provided some advice.
Finally, as a dog trainer, she has seen it all.
We asked her for some general tips for dog owners, young and old, especially if those dogs have been acting up as of late.
National Dog Day encourages responsible pet ownership and raises awareness of the need to protect dogs from neglect and abuse.
