The first-ever Classic Auto Car Show under the Simcoe Heritage Friendship Festival umbrella is revving up for a huge return this August long weekend, promising a nostalgic mix of chrome, music, and community support.
The show was previously hosted by Terry Reese and the Southwestern Corvettes but is now organized by festival volunteers. Co-chairs Paul Catherwood and Charlene Davidson are leading the event, which honours the legacy of the late Mr. Reese, former president of both the Friendship Festival and the Southwestern Corvette Club. Catherwood tells us more.
Open to all classic cars—from slammed pickups to vintage Mopars and ‘80s icons—the show will feature 17 trophy categories, including Best of Show and Furthest Travelled. Every registered vehicle owner receives a dash plaque, bottled water, door prize eligibility, and an event T-shirt, thanks to sponsor Expert Auto. Whatever your preference, you’re likely to spot some favourites. Catherwood and Davidson always keep an eye out for their own top picks.
Entry is $20 per vehicle, with all proceeds benefiting the Children’s Autism Food Bank and supporting the nonprofit festival. Davidson asks that anyone bringing a car first go to the Brick’s parking lot off Culver Street for staging-especially if you’re with a group or club-so that everyone can be staged together. Admission for spectators is free.
Both Catherwood and Davidson agree that classic cars and classic music go hand-in-hand. Attendees can expect rock and roll vibes that pair perfectly with polished chrome and candy paint.
You can catch this great community event Sunday(Aug 3), from 8am-3pm in Lynwood Park. Volunteers are still needed for the entire festival, which runs August 1–4. Anyone interested can email info@friendshipfest.ca.
Whether you’re there for the Bel Airs, the Bon Jovi, or just the memories, this classic car show promises to be a highlight of the Festival.
