Pottahawk Sunday 2025 wrapped up safely, with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Norfolk County Detachment reporting only minor issues during the popular annual boating event held on July 13.
An estimated 450 boats carrying around 2,500 people gathered off the shores of Pottahawk Point. Thanks to the efforts of police and emergency crews, the event remained largely incident-free.
Between July 13 and 14, officers issued 12 Liquor Licence and Control Act charges and 10 under the Canada Shipping Act. One individual was charged with impaired operation on the water.
On land, police laid 32 Highway Traffic Act charges, including one for stunt driving and 24 for speeding. Two more charges were issued under the LLCA.
Norfolk OPP credits the positive outcome to strong inter-agency support and responsible behaviour from attendees. Agencies assisting included OPP units from across Ontario, the Canadian Coast Guard, RCMP, and Norfolk County Paramedic Services.
“This year’s event saw hundreds of boats descend on Pottahawk with no major issues,” said Inspector Andy Tait. “There is no safe level of alcohol consumption when you operate a vessel or motor vehicle. Think ahead and be safe.”
The OPP encourages everyone to plan ahead and keep safety a priority year-round.
