Libraries across Ontario are urging parents to keep their children reading during the summer months to help avoid the “summer slide” — the learning loss that can happen while school is out.
Reading just 15 minutes a day can make a big difference when school starts again. Libraries across the region offer fun programs like reading challenges, storytimes, and craft events to help kids stay engaged.
Librarians suggest letting kids pick their own books, including comics, graphic novels, or audiobooks.
Reading aloud as a family is also a great way to build vocabulary and encourage imagination.
Most of Ontario’s summer reading programs are free and open to all ages.
