The governments of Canada and Ontario are investing up to $4.4 million to help small agri-food businesses grow, improve food safety, and enhance traceability. The funding, delivered through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP), supports 90 projects under Ontario’s Food Safety and Growth Initiative.
Eligible food producers, processors, and service providers can receive up to $75,000 per project. The funding can be used for equipment upgrades, adopting new food safety and traceability technologies, and employee training.
Examples include Vision Greens in Welland, installing advanced water filtration; Shefa Meats in Toronto, enhancing product traceability with barcoding systems; and West Grey Premium Beef in Durham, purchasing new packaging tools and safety program upgrades.
Sustainable CAP is a five-year, $3.5 billion joint investment by federal, provincial, and territorial governments. It includes $1 billion in federal initiatives and $2.5 billion in cost-shared programs designed to increase competitiveness, innovation, and resilience in Canada’s agriculture and agri-food sector.
