The Norfolk County Public Library presented council with an update on safety concerns at the Simcoe branch during a recent council meeting.
CEO Julie Kent spoke on the issue after the Library Board requested she bring the matter to the attention of elected officials.
Staff collected data between October and April, tracking incidents at the Simcoe location and highlighting ongoing challenges they continue to face.
Over those seven months, the library recorded nearly 300 incidents, with Kent outlining some of the key takeaways from the report.
Kent noted that even incidents occurring outside the library continue to have an impact, describing it as a fluid situation where activity from outside the branch can sometimes spill into the building.
Since October, the library has issued seven trespass orders.
Kent shared the data with council to ensure they are informed should any future discussions take place regarding security at the shared space.
Council recently declined a proposal to hire a security guard for the County Administration Building, which is directly connected to the library.
