Norfolk County is gearing up to kick off spring with a brand-new event that promises a mix of fun, shopping, and community fundraising.
The first-ever Community Garage Sale will take place at the Norfolk County Fairgrounds.
The idea for the event was revisited recently as organizers looked back on concepts brainstormed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among them was the vision for a large-scale community garage sale—an opportunity to bring Norfolk residents together in a meaningful and engaging way.
General Manager of the Norfolk County Agricultural Society, Angela Hogeveen, explains how the idea came to life:
Thanks to the success of previous student-led sales, the Agricultural Society recognized that this kind of community event aligns well with Norfolk’s local spirit and interest in grassroots, family-friendly activities.
While inspired by school-based sales, this event is open to the public—anyone can sell their items as long as they’ve reserved a booth.
Angela Hogeveen shares more about the kinds of items you can expect to find:
Unlike traditional garage sales that rely on a single household’s driveway, this event will feature a wide variety of goods collected from homes all across Norfolk County—and you can be one of the sellers.
Tables can be reserved through the Norfolk County Agricultural Society website or in person at their office.
Each $25 reservation includes an 8-foot table and a 10-foot space, perfect for showcasing everything with both indoor and outdoor spaces are available.
Hogeveen provides more insight into what this unique event has to offer:
The event is free to attend for shoppers, who will only pay for the food they enjoy or the treasures they choose to take home. With spring cleaning season just around the corner, this is the perfect opportunity to declutter, find one-of-a-kind items, and enjoy a day out with neighbours. Angela shares why this is a day you won’t want to miss:
Whether you’re buying, selling, or just enjoying the atmosphere, the Community Garage Sale promises something for everyone.
Featuring food, community spirit, and hundreds of unique finds, this event is poised to become a new seasonal favourite in Norfolk County.
