This Mother’s Day weekend, May 10 and 11, Ontario residents can enjoy free fishing across the province—no licence required! The Ministry of Natural Resources is inviting Canadians to grab a rod and head to their favourite fishing spot to celebrate the season and spend quality time with loved ones.
Mike Harris, Minister of Natural Resources, says fishing is a classic Ontario tradition that supports families, local businesses, and tourism. “It’s a perfect way to enjoy the outdoors while creating lasting memories,” he said.
Free fishing weekends like this one offer a great chance for newcomers to try the sport. However, all standard regulations, including size limits and catch rules, still apply.
This is the second of four free fishing opportunities in 2025. The next ones are Father’s Day weekend (June 14–15) and Family Fishing Week (June 28–July 6).
