A 40-year-old Brantford man has been charged with second-degree murder following a fatal residential fire that occurred on Buchanan Crescent earlier this week.
On the morning of May 5, around 7:45 a.m., officers from the Brantford Police Service, along with Brantford Fire and Brant County Paramedics, responded to reports of a house fire on Buchanan Crescent.
A 49-year-old woman, who resided at the home, was transported to hospital but was later pronounced deceased.
Three other adults, including the accused, were also in the home at the time of the fire. All were taken to hospital for treatment of injuries related to the blaze.
Following an investigation led by the Brantford Police Service, in collaboration with the Office of the Fire Marshal, the incident has now been classified as a criminal matter.
The 40-year-old man was officially charged with second-degree murder earlier this afternoon.
Police have not released the identity of the accused or the victim at this time, and the investigation remains ongoing.
