MPP Bobbi Ann Brady is demanding answers from Premier Doug Ford about the proposed Minister’s Zoning Order (MZO) that would turn the Nanticoke Industrial Park into a new city of 40,000 people. Speaking at Queen’s Park this week, Brady said Empire Homes quietly applied for the MZO in September 2024.
Brady reminded the chamber that the industrial park is home to Stelco and Imperial Oil and was once the site of North America’s largest coal plant. She said the area should remain focused on energy and industry to support jobs and the province’s growing electricity needs—not housing.
Brady said local residents and leaders have repeatedly rejected the MZO, and that six elections have been won on opposition to it. She challenged the government to support energy development instead.
Housing Minister Rob Flack promised transparency and local consultation. Brady hopes this means the MZO will be denied.
