Local teacher Colin Walsh is hoping to trade the classroom for Parliament Hill as the Liberal candidate in Haldimand–Norfolk.
Born in Kapuskasing and fluent in French, Walsh moved to Simcoe with his family 13 years ago. After a brief career in business, he returned to school to become a teacher—a decision encouraged by his wife. Today, he teaches French immersion and lives in Simcoe with his wife and two children.
Walsh says he didn’t enter politics for power, but because he saw a real need for community representation. After spending time meeting residents and knocking on doors, he says one issue stands out: affordability.
Walsh added many residents have also raised concerns about U.S. tariffs and the local impact of global trade decisions.
He acknowledges that some voters were unhappy with Justin Trudeau, and as a result might not be happy with the Liberal party.
Walsh went on to say that Mark Carney is also committed to strong social programs and represents a positive shift in leadership.
If elected, he promises to stay present in the community, saying he’ll be here every weekend and that he intends to hold town halls to hear local voices and have honest conversations.
Finally, Walsh says his campaign is rooted in integrity and transparency.
He closed by saying that being an MP for this community is about service—not politics.
