Haldimand paramedics will begin handing out naloxone kits starting May 1 to anyone who may need one. These kits can be used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, potentially saving lives. Paramedics will distribute the kits during home visits through the Community Paramedicine Program, after conducting medical checks to determine if the kits are suitable for the individual.
People who receive a kit will also be offered support from other community services for drug rehabilitation, if that’s something they’d like to pursue. Haldimand County is able to provide these kits thanks to a partnership with Grand Erie Public Health, with the Ontario Naloxone Program making them available for free.
“This is another way we’re fighting the opioid crisis and giving people fast, life-saving help—without needing a trip to the ER,” said Fire Chief and Emergency Services Manager Jason Gallagher.
