Incoming student trustees, left to right, Harper Thompson, Ryleigh Staats and Prabhsidak Singh
The Grand Erie District School Board has selected three new members to represent their peers for the 2025–2026 school year. Bringing unique perspectives and a strong sense of commitment, Harper Thompson, Ryleigh Staats, and Prabhsidak Singh have been elected to serve on the Student Senate.
Harper Thompson will represent students right here in Norfolk and Haldimand counties, as a student at Simcoe Composite School (SCS). Her focus is on raising awareness around mental health and supporting accessibility. In her own words, “Every decision made in Grand Erie impacts students. It’s vital that student input is heard and considered.” Inspired by past student representatives, Harper hopes to lead by example and advocate for students well-being.
Ryleigh Staats was elected through a consensus-building process by the United Indigenous Student Council to represent Indigenous students. A student at Delhi District Secondary School, Staats is a member of the Turtle Clan and the Haudenosaunee. Embracing her cultural roots, she is passionate about empowering Indigenous voices. “Being Indigenous, you don’t just endure generational trauma—you take that power and resilience with you every day,” she said. Ryleigh is ready to bring traditional perspectives to the board and champion inclusivity.
Prabhsidak Singh will represent Brantford and Brant County. A student at Collegiate Institute and Vocational School, he is committed to ensuring that all student voices are heard and valued. His priorities include improving student engagement, increasing representation, and promoting cultural inclusivity across the board.
The newly elected Student Senate members will begin their terms on August 1, ready to advocate for positive change throughout Grand Erie.
