Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Bobbi Ann Brady is applauding the Minister of Education for taking her concerns about the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board (BHNCDSB) seriously. The government has appointed Aaron Shull to review the board’s expenses and policies on conflict of interest and accountability.
Brady raised the issue in the legislature on November 27th, questioning Premier Doug Ford about the board’s controversial July trip to Italy. According to a Freedom of Information request, trustees spent $100,000 on artwork, $50,000 on travel and hotels, and enjoyed a $1,600 dinner at a luxury hotel and spa.
The artwork was purchased for St. Padre Pio School, now under construction in Brantford. Brady argued local artists could have been chosen instead.
She also criticized recent trustee expense policy changes allowing business-class travel and higher meal and hotel expenses. Brady hopes the investigation ensures accountability and prevents future misuse of taxpayer funds.
