Rebecca Dyke of Tillsonburg shone on the global stage at the Jiu Jitsu International World Championships in Crete, Greece. Competing against many participants from over 70 countries, the under-21 national team member brought home a silver medal in Nogi and a bronze in Gi, showcasing her skill and determination. Rebecca fought in the under-70kg category, with matches often decided by slim margins, reflecting the high talent level of the event.
Her bronze medal match was especially sweet, as she defeated a Mongolian opponent who she had previously lost to. Rebecca said preparing for a match against an opponent who has beat you is different than an unknown fighter. It’s more than the physical preparations.
This was her first international tournament, and she described the experience as both challenging and inspiring. Rebecca felt a lot of pressure to perform well, but maybe not for the reason you’d think.
Needless to say she made everyone very proud. Rebecca expressed gratitude to God, her coaches at Bowen Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Lightweight Gym in Tillsonburg and supporters who helped her prepare and fund her journey.
With plans to compete in other major tournaments, she’s determined to keep representing Canada proudly on the world stage.
