Norfolk Disposal Services Limited pleaded guilty to violating Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act, resulting in the death of worker JR Richard in April 2022.
CBC is reporting that the company failed to provide proper safety training.
Richard, a father of three, was ejected from a waste collection truck he was driving after something happened to cause the vehicle to veer out of the lane, onto the shoulder, then crossed to the other side of the road where it tipped into a ditch.
The Ministry of Labour said despite it being unclear was caused this incident, they said it is clear the business had no system in place to ensure drivers were aware of how to safely operate the vehicles in the right-side-stand position.
