A large part of Tillsonburg is under a boil water advisory after routine testing found bacteria in the water. The advisory, issued on October 9, affects homes and businesses in the town’s central area, including locations between Broadway and Tillson Avenue, from North Street E. to Oxford Street.
The problem was discovered when a water sample from the Tillsonburg Community Centre tested positive for Total Coliform and E. coli. Oxford County reported the results to Southwestern Public Health, which then issued the boil water advisory as a safety measure.
Oxford County, responsible for the town’s water system, is working with local maintenance teams to fix the issue. The chlorination system is functioning correctly, and other water samples taken in Tillsonburg were clear. Officials are awaiting follow-up test results and expect the advisory to last at least 48 hours.
