The Ontario government is launching a review of 37 non-Indigenous children’s aid societies in the province.
Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services officials say they are searching for an outside contractor to conduct the review of the quality of protection and financial management of the societies.
The announcement comes one week after Premier Doug Ford criticized the societies in a press conference, saying he has heard “nightmare stories about the abuse of taxpayers’ money.”
Ministry officials speaking on condition of anonymity say the review will in part focus on consistency of services, out-of-home placements and staffing models.
