A weather system is expected to bring up to 40 mm of rain to the Grand River watershed this weekend, with thunderstorms possibly increasing localized rainfall. While significant flooding is not anticipated, river flows will be higher than usual. This raises the risk of flooding in low-lying and urban areas if drainage systems become overwhelmed.
The Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) will use reservoirs to reduce downstream flooding, but river levels will remain elevated. The public is urged to exercise extreme caution around all waterways. Slippery banks and cold, fast-moving water pose serious hazards, especially for children and pets. Recreational users should also be cautious.
The GRCA is closely monitoring river conditions. This advisory remains in effect until noon on Tuesday, August 20th. For more information on flows, weather, and reservoir conditions, visit the GRCA website at www.grandriver.ca.
